Our Story

Every Year, Families Make Life-Defining Decisions Without the Data They Deserve.

Pathfinder exists to close that gap — with real placement data, real salaries, and a clear line from major to career.

The Information Gap

One of the Biggest Investments You'll Ever Make. Almost No Hard Data to Guide It.

Choosing a college and a major is a six-figure financial commitment — often the largest a family will make outside of a home. It sets a career trajectory, a city, a network, a financial starting point that compounds for decades.

The data that should drive that decision exists. It lives in government outcome databases, in institutional disclosures, in salary surveys and employer hiring records and academic research on long-term earnings by major and school. The picture is there. It's just not assembled, surfaced, or put in front of families when they actually need it.

Instead, they get rankings with undisclosed methodologies. Brochures photographed in October sunshine. Emails that are indistinguishable from marketing. Advice shaped by anecdote and reputation rather than evidence.

The fact that parents and students don't have this data front and center as they make decisions this large — that's not just a gap. It's almost criminal.

We built Pathfinder because that gap is fixable. The data is out there. It just needs to be gathered, modeled, and put where you can actually use it.

Where This Started

We Couldn't Find the Answers. So We Built Them.

Clarity for College started with a personal frustration. We come from software and data backgrounds — we know how to find information, model it, and pressure-test it. Yet when our own kids were applying to college, we couldn't find what we needed.

They ran the full spectrum: high achievers aiming at elite schools, strong students with more options than answers, athletes balancing competing priorities, families at very different price sensitivity points. Different profiles. Same question: where is the unbiased, evidence-driven resource that helps rational families make a confident decision about spending $200,000?

So we did what researchers do. We gathered the data. Then more data. Then research layered on top of data — academic studies, government datasets, institutional disclosures, outcome reports, admissions trends.

Government outcome datasets
Academic research on earnings by major
Institutional admissions & cost disclosures
Four years of modeling and analysis

We evaluated outcomes, risk, selectivity drivers, cost structures, and opportunity costs — the same framework you'd apply to any major investment. Because that's what this is.

We made our own decisions. Shared the analysis with friends. They found it useful. So Clarity for College became a product.

The Next Question

College Is Just the Start. What Happens After?

Picking a college answers one question. But the decision most families are really making — and most often making blind — is what comes after graduation.

Which majors actually lead to jobs? Not in theory. In practice, for graduates of programs like yours, from schools like yours. What do they earn at 2 years out? At 10? Which companies recruit there? Which cities do grads actually land in?

That data is even harder to find than college outcome data. It's buried in employer records, LinkedIn aggregate data, alumni surveys, and federal reporting that nobody has put together in a usable way.

Pathfinder was built to surface exactly that. Real placements. Actual salaries. Major-to-career maps built from what actually happens — not what admissions materials say might happen.

The decision you're making connects a major to a career, a school to a starting salary, four years of choices to decades of outcomes. You deserve to see that connection clearly before you make it.

That's what Pathfinder is for.
